Don't Fence Me In

I am still going back and editing the photos from our trip out west. When I first got home I was very eager to sit down and edit my photos. But after an hour or two of staring at the images I have to walk away... so these images will pop up here for a while to come.

I know this photo a day thing is probably meant to make me take a photo everyday but I worked on this photo today so I think it fits in the concept.

Backwards Door

Hard Light
+

Normal Blend Mode. Image exposure pushed up two stops.

I know the final image doesn't look too different from the first one but I got a little more detail in the windows and a little more dramatic light on the door.
Oddly enough if I switched the staking order of the images and used Overlay on the lighter image and normal on the darker image I got the exact same result.

Busy Weekend 2

Sitting on a patio with friends drinking Bloody Mary's...
Okay I was the only one drinking Bloody Mary's and I only had one. We had a lunch right after our brunch date. Too much to do and not enough time do do it all..

Busy Weekend 1

Laura and I got a chance to visit Hal and Janet this weekend and we had a great cook out at their place. We told some stories and shared some food and good Scotch, thanks Hal, and had a great time.
Next time we go to their place I will have to get a shot of the Tiki bar.

All Day Long

Hamlet has been fasinated by this wasp building its nest in our window. I finally got around to looking for the Wasp spray today and I found 6 flea sprays and 3 ant sprays but know Wasp. Guess it will live another day or two or maybe a week.

Ham will go after thi poor wasp all day long and the wasp just keeps going paying him no mind. A week or so ago another wasp was trying to take over this nest and Hamlet was enjoying double the fun. But one of them won out and it has just been this poor soul labring away building his home not know next time I go to the store I am going to bu some wasp spray and come home and kill him.her...
... and hope I don't get stung in the process.

Fun with Photo Equipment

I have seen this video pop up on a couple of different photo blogs. I thought I would continue the trend and pass it on.

Art what is it good for

It is sad to see an empty art gallery. Art is always the first thing to go in schools when funds are cut and it is the first thing to go in a bad economy.
Greece is always considered one of if not the greatest society. It gave us democracy, science and art.

I said, art, huh
Good God, y'all!

If we love the democracy and science so much why can't we embrace the art? I mean really embrace it. Don't leave it to the few to create and the rich to buy but embrace it as part of everyday life and education. The culture that created the government we say we love and the science we use every day incorporated art into their education and everyday life. How can we expect to follow in their footsteps if we aren't wearing the same shoes?

Forced Enjoyment

Sunday was a beautiful day and my beautiful wife forced me to go out with her to the Clarke-Palmore House and enjoy the day. She had to work for the county face painting at their ice cream social.

I wondered around the grounds for a while taking pictures and taking in the history. The house was in 1819 and then donated to the county in 1999.

You can see the city through the trees but you are in a lush green natural setting. I had never been to this neighborhood before even though I have driven by the area a million times. It is off Route 5 just south of Richmond.

This was one of the secondary buildings on the property, beautiful red brick buildings set in the lush green Virginia woods.

Another bonus was stopping and taking some pictures by the railroad tracks.

Over the years I have taken Route 5 many times to come and go from Richmond and I have always wanted to stop and take pictures off these rail road tracks just south of the bottom but never have. Today I took the time. This area is quickly getting built up with high end condos, restaurants and office so I don't know how much longer it will look this way.

More From New Kent

Another pic form New Kent Winery but it could be from our house. We have enough wine glasses to stock our own winery.

Spring Time

It is a great time to sit out on the porch and enjoy the night.

Happy Mother (in-law) Day

Laura and I took her mother to New Kent Winery today for Mother's Day. I Skyp'd with my mother earlier today because she is in Italy. So she is doing fine on the wine front.
I am probably pushing this HDR thing a little to far especially since I only have Photoshop CS5 to process it. I can't help it I have had one or two images turn out and I keep hoping to get the next one.
 Not HDR

It was a nice day for it

...with apologies to Laura.

Laura had to work for the county today at Walkerton Tavern so I took the opportunity to enjoy the nice weather and take some pictures. There was a bluegrass band playing under the gazebo and arts and crafts to be done by the children.

Just Outside

It amazes me how fast nature can work sometime. Just yesterday almost all the flowers were just little buds. Now they are popping open overnight, much to Laura's dismay.

Route 64 Revisited

I took sometime today to edit some more photos from our Grand Canyon trip.

I still have a lot to go through and every time I look at them I like one I didn't the day before and dislike one I liked.

It is a beautiful place but after looking at photo after photo blue skies over a big hole in the ground I have to walk away and get perspective.

A Job Half Done

A couple days ago they started to cut the grass but never finished. They cut a ring around the outside but left the center uncut.

City Parking

By any means necessary.
I don't know if those are actual parking spots but someone sure thought they were.
