Waiting on the band

I went to see the Carolina Chocolate Drops on Brown's Island for Friday Cheers. While they were setting up I snapped off a few pictures on the James River.

Spent the late afternoon/evening with my parents. It is always nice to sit out on their patio and catch up.

Up To No Good

Rally in Richmond

Went to the Siegel Center to see President Obama today for ht e kick off his campaign. We had a long wait outside to get in but it was worth seeing him with 8 thousand screaming supporters. In order to miss the mass exodus and get lunch we left a few minutes early so we could get our car in a better position to leave and get lunch.

We finished watching the rally at The Village. It is a nice little Richmond restaurant where the bar is open all day and the food isn't bad either.

While we waited on or food a guy kept pulling things out of his bag and putting them on and around his bike. I watched him for about 20 minutes while he pulled things out and placed them just so and muttered to himself or to any passerby that came down the street. Then I looked away for a minute or two and then it was gone.

It is like those bar games where you have to find the hidden objects. Can you find the number 7, can you find the padlock?

Walking the Bottom

I went down to Shockoe Bottom today to take pictures. It has a mixture of old Richmond architecture restaurants and different people walking around.

I originally thought I would get some grungy shots of graffiti and maybe some other architectural things. When I walked under the over pass I thought it would make a nice shoot with all the lines crisscrossing across the frame. I first composed the shot with the over pass going right through the center of the frame but then I thought that would be too symmetrical so I repositioned myself to get it to run diagonal across the frame. After processing the diagonal shot I looked back at the first one and decided it was a better composition. I had originally thought the viewers eye would follow the over pass right out of the photo but I think there is enough other elements to keep the eye in frame.

The roof is of the 17^th street train station that is where the train tracks are going in the previous two photos. It is a beautiful building but I chooses to shoot the back of it; one because I think it is shot less and because I liked the straight hard angles of the roof against the sky.

This guy is waiting on something. Maybe a bus or maybe on the motivation to get up and walk.
