New Photo App

I downloaded a new photo app for my phone, Pixlr Express. I found it on one of those best of the year lists that are so popular this time of year. It has a lot of features and I am looking forward to using it.

Rainy Christmas Eve

No snow for Christmas but I don't really expect it here in Richmond anyways. I am looking forward to spending the holidays with my family and friends. It is also my son's first Christmas so that is very exciting.

Road Race

Laura raced her first post baby 5K today and did great.

I snapped a coupe abstract shots of runners while I was trying to find her in the pack and the start... I never founder her. I had to wait until the end to see her crossing the finish line, very impressively I might add.

This was a Toys for Tots race and they got a lot of toys.

For the first two pictures I used a Photoshop technique I saw on Digital Photography School. The technique involves duplicating the image layer and then; desaturated it, inverting it, changing the blend mode to overlay, converting it to a smart object and finally applying a Gaussian blur to it and cranking it up to sharpen the image.

The answer isn't always 42

Met some new friends out for dinner at one of if not the best place for beer in Richmond.

 ... but sometimes it is.

An Eye Full 12/6

Devil's Backbone Kilt Flasher is a good scotch ale. The first scotch ale I remember drinking was Flying Dog's. I wasn't real impressed with it which  was very disappointing. It had a Ralph Steadman drawing of Hunter S. Thompson and a short description by Mr. Thompson himself . No matter how bad I wanted to like the beer it was bad. The disappointment with the Flying Dog Scotch Ale was about 11years ago (11 years is a long time so I admit my taste might have changed) and i hadn't really given that particular style of beer a second chance until I found  St. George's Scotch Ale... it is delicious. So when my wife came out of the store with Devil's Backbone's take on it I was excited to try it.  I really like there beers and had high hopes for these six beer, they didn't disappoint.

Waiting on toast

I really like these plates.  My wife drove all over town to get a full set. Even had some guy try to convince the sales girl to sell the ones she had on hold to him right in front of her.
The are very simple and clean and they don't get really slippery when you wash them.  I also really like toast and jam.

Out with the green and in with the brown

Green leaves and blooming flowers have been replaced with stick and brown wrinkled leaves remain.

Pusher Man

I'm just getting over Thanksgiving and the stores are already pushing Christmas.

Finally got in

Thanksgiving dinner at the Jefferson. The Jefferson Hotel is a classic Richmond stop. My wife has wanted to have thanksgiving dinner here for the past few years but you have to get reservations a couple months in advance. It is hard to remember to call or Thanksgiving reservations when it is 100 degrees outside.

Warm Fall Day

It is hard to believe Thanksgiving is tomorrow. The fact it is almost 60 degrees out isn't helping. I am looking forward to seeing family and eating turkey and stuffing.

Night Walk

These photos are from another walk around Richmond (Carytown). It was a busy night for Richmond. The Virginia Premier of Steve Spielberg's Lincoln was at the Byrd Theater.

New Belgium Brewery was having some kind of promotion at the New York Deli ( Got a key chain bottle opener, becasue I needed another one of those.)
This walk about town was like many of my other ones. My wife had something to do and I passed the time by walking around and taking pictures. This is the first time it has been at night though. I was looking forward to a night shoot I just wish I hadn't been lazy and left my tripod at home. Now I just need Laura to find a meeting or something at sunset so I can get some magic hour shots.

Plan 9, record stores are a dying breed.

Taking some time

I took some time to look back at some photos I have taken. I don't always have time to process them before I move on to newer ones I have taken or something else comes up. Lately it has the something else... my son Clive arrived last month and he has put most things on the back burner. But today I had a little time so I worked on these images.
This image is from a peach orchard around Wintergreen Resort. Laura and I went up there our "Babymoon" in mid July.

These two images were taken while I was walking around Richmond. Before Clive was born my wife took a prenatal yoga class in Carytown. While she did her yoga I walked around Richmond with my camera. Some days I got some good photos some days not so much.
A friend of mine and her daughter had come up to Richmond to see and Ansel Adams exhibit at the VMFA and after words they walked around so her daughter could take some photos. She asked were a good place to find graffiti was so she could get some photos of it. A couple weeks later I some some of the photos and they were very good. So know I am thinking about those photos when I am walking around. Thanks for the inspiration Elizabeth!

Packed and ready to go

After 40+ hours of labor the wait to leave the hospital seemed to be twice as long. (My wife might have a different take on this)

Clive also met his Great Grandfather today.

My son arrived today and I am so proud to be his father and so proud of my wife for all she did to get him here.
