Forest Hill Park revisited

This is another shot form Forest Hill Park (3/10/12) I originally took this for an HDR image but decided I didn't need the range and a straight exposure would suffice

The above image is the middle or correct exposure from the HDR image I posted the other day. I used some curves and levels adjustments to tweak the contrast and white balance and a high pass filter to sharpen the rocks.

Thinking back to sunnier days

More images form Maymount Park.
Maymount is about to celebrate it's 100th year anniversary. They are having a photo contest to celebrate the occasion. I have submitted some older images I have taken there and I might submit some form this last trip out.

Walk in the park

 

I had an hour and a half to kill today so I went down to Maymont Park and took some pictures. This first one is an over styalized HDR image, I just can't seem to give up on these. The second to are single exposures with some levels and curves adjustments. The waterfall image also has a Black and White adjustment layer with a reduced opacity to get the faded colors.

Office Window

It is a very foggy morning and the red tulip grabbed my eye this morning as I was settling in to work with my cup of coffee.

Technical Bit:
For this image I used a levels adjustment layer and then for some extra contrast I set the black and white adjustment layer to overlay at 25% opacity. Like many things in Photoshop their are many ways to get the same effect. Duplicating the background layer and setting its layer mode to overlay would get a similar effect but the adjustment layer keeps the file size down. I was also able to tweak the colors by adjusting the black and white layer (I used the green filter preset). I end up using a black and white adjustment layer a lot because while I am brain storming I try a black and white conversion first and then if I don't like how that works I switch it to overlay and then mess with the opacity.

Red Cross

Today the blood mobile came by work and took donations through the morning. It wasn't as busy today as it usually has been in the past but it was still a steady stream of people.
