Jinxed

(This is for you Hal) Apparently I jinxed myself talking about how nice it was outside because only a few hours later it started to rain. The dog wasn't happy about it either, no walk for Bailey.

Oh to be outside

On days like today I really wish I worked outside or just didn't have to work and could be outside. I have had jobs working outside, various construction jobs and landscaping, so I do appreciate this cushy job I have now setting behind a desk but I still have fond memories of being out on a beautiful day enjoying the weather.
If you can get out and enjoy the day.

I'm a lucky man...

...for having such a wonderful woman. I was thinking today how lucky I was to have Laura and I thought of this picture I took at a tapas restaurant in Georgetown called Bodega early in our relationship. We had a great day walking around DC looking visiting museums and shops. We ended up at this restaurant and it had great food and a great atmosphere. We haven’t made it back there as much as we would like but I am trying to get back up to DC for a photo expedition to the "Exorcist" steps so, hopefully we can make it then.

Some community service and then some self indulgence.
Laura and her mom have been cleaning this road for many moons.
If everyone took a little more care of there surrounding the world would be a lot better place.
Then we went and indulged our selves at the Virginia wine expo...
Good times

Random pipe...

... or maybe it’s a chimney from some crazy mans underground bunker or home? I heard of a man like that in Nantucket... but I digress. While taking our dog for a walk around the perimeter of our complex I spied this pipe sticking up out of the ground so I did what any one would do I picked up the dog poo and then grabbed my camera (phone) and took some pictures. That is what everyone would do right?

I didn't even know it was there

While in DC on a "journalistic assignment" with my friend Chad, over at Weird Load, we stumbled upon the Roosevelt Memorial. We were up in DC to see what Glen Beck was going to say... and after we got bored with that we took a walk around the tidal basin. I have been to DC many times and been to many monuments but I had never even caught a glimpse of this one. I highly recommend this monument to anyone in the DC area.

The pics below are some of the ones I submitted to the magazine but I don't think they are the ones they used.

Neighbor

You can't always pick your neighbors.

Nothing Lasts Forevr

At least nothing man made lasts forever. This makes me think of some thing I saw in the trailer for Into Eternity, a film about the building of a structure to hold nuclear waste. It says nuclear waste is toxic for 100,000 then they point out the pyramids are only 5,000 years old."Man" has never built anything that has lasted close to 100,000 years this will be one hellava test case. But enough doom and gloom, glowing children running in the woods, three headed fish and all that.
I just like taking pictures of old rusted stuff...
and beer.

Frost on the Tracks

Rail road ties around the lake. I took this picture a number of years ago at a friend’s place in South Carolina.

Look Closer

Sometimes we can find a picture by looking at things a little differently i.e. look closer, farther away, or maybe upside down.
I took this last night while doing dishes. THis pictuer-a-day thing is makeing me think more about pictures and giving my a need to take more; I like it.

Sunny Days

The sun is shining and the weather is warm. Feel like taking a car trip with windows rolled down.

Flash Photography AAUGH!

What I know about flash photography:
1. I need more practice
2. I need to learn more about it
3. I need another flash
  • I have a SB-800 and the on camera flash...
       ... I need more slaves

What I really want to do is the Flash Bus Tour, however it is a week before my wedding so I don't think it is going to happen.

This is what I got...

I didn't get the shot of Hamlet the cat, paw raised and ready to strike down the off-camera flash. I think it went off in his eyes once and he was pissed.

...and finally

Ever heard the saying "caulk and paint make a carpenter what he ain't"? Photoshop is kinda the same thing for photographers. A couple of curves, black and white/overlays and high pass filters and I was a able to cover up my poor exposure.

What a busy weekend

Not much time for anything this weekend with it being Valentine’s Day and my girl’s birthday being on Valentine’s Day. I did take this pic yesterday but never posted it. I love my girl but every time I try to get a photo of something she jumps in, but I really don't mind.

I was trying to get the lights reflecting in the wine glass her but somehow her beautiful face got in the pic.

Drinking wine in a castle

Luck number 13

Horton vineyard

Not my corner office...

But then again it is Saturday.

: )

Wedding planning...

Does wedding planning always have to include wine? By law no but as luck would have it Cooper Vineyard was on the way... and so is Horton.

Morning Light

Sorry no post yesterday...
...I had a very bad day. But no time to dwell on that - the morning light is pouring in and I am taking the time to enjoy it.

Blogger app test

Google put out a new Blogger app for Android, thought I would give it a try.
More coffee?

The Back of the Bus

image for 2/8/11
The old VW revisited. This bus has a lot of character and by character I mean rust; I think I will get a lot of shots of this old bus.

Circle Inside a Circle

I think we all should take the time for cat naps.

Light through the beer glass

The Taj Mahal of beers is conveniently called Taj Mahal and it is served in this fancy glass at India K Raja in Richmond.

More from DC

So I haven't been taking pictures... at least good ones lately. But I have been going back through some of my old photos and I think that is important as well.
The last two posts plus these are all from the Cherry Blossom festival this past year. Oddly enough I didn't get that many photos of the cherry blossoms. There were too many people standing around getting in the way.

These particular photos are from the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. As many times I have been to DC I had never been here before.

This monument is a little out of the way from all the other on the Mall but well worth the walk.

I like curves

More from the Hirshhorn.

Curves and Weeble Wobbles

I took this picture, with some insistence from my girlfriend, at the Hirshhorn Museum in DC. I have always like this building and the sculptures of the "Weeble Wobbles" people in the background.

Take the time to look around

I took this shot while "on the job" at an anti-war protest in January of 07 in Washington DC. I went through the pics of the protesters but didn't never went back to process the other shots I took that day.

Cook'n dinner

Broccoli on the stove-top.
